Our Story
The story of an old boy named Rusty and why we’re here today.
Hi! I’m Rusty!
Hi there, I’m Rusty, a chill 15-year-old mutt who’s lived a life full of adventure, road trips, scritches and tons of love, with my human, Chris.
My story starts in a pound in Montreal and after a few months of no one wanting me, they sent me to a pound in Toronto so I could find a home. I spent a couple of sad months there not knowing what was going to happen but everything changed when I was 10 months old and Chris showed up, he took me for a walk, we thought each other were pretty cool and he took me home (but not after putting me back in my kennel to go get a collar and leash for me, I was scared he wouldn’t come back, but he did…I still have the same collar today, I almost don’t like it when he takes it off). I think my name was Jack back then, but who cares.
Since then, I’ve done everything imaginable with my pops, from working with him at his office, going to a few bars, a million road trips, sail boats, subways and even a few plane rides. I think I’ve got in about 50,000 kilometres, including three drives across Canada, flights to Costa Rica living the beach life in a little surf town called Nosara, and British Columbia, where I’m spending my golden years. My paws have touched the sands of beautiful beaches, I’ve felt like the king of the world on top of a few mountains and I’ve been eaten alive by mosquitos portaging through Algonquin park, or sailing out to little islands in Georgian Bay with all my camping buddies. Campaign in BC is definitely my favourite though, with all the mountains, giant trees beaches, and hot springs we’ve found, Sloquet Hot Springs is my favourite but don’t tell too many people 🙂
Chris is my best friend in the world even when I’m scared at the vet, if he says it’s okay, then I know it will be. He takes care of me with home-cooked meals, the best kibbles, and supplements that keep me healthy and active. I had some bad arthritis lately too but he even made that go away. Thanks to him I can still do almost everything I was doing 10 years ago.
Everywhere we go, I meet amazing people, pooches, and even a few other kinds of animals, even a seal once! I’ve made a ton friends along the way and still do. But no one loves me more than Chris, and I love him just as much.
Our story is one of friendship, loyalty, and a commitment to living the best, healthiest life possible. That’s why I made him start Healthy Hounds – to help you give your furry friend an amazing, long, and healthy life just like mine.

Hi, I’m Jeanette! With over 20 years of experience as a veterinary technician, I’ve seen it all — from dog behavior to small animal medicine. I’ve even had the joy of working with rescue animals in Costa Rica, Thailand, and Canada (yes, it was as fun as it sounds!). I co-founded a rescue in Nosara, Costa Rica in 2016, but now that I’m back in Canada, I’m focused on vet tech, specializing in nutrition and anesthesia. Oh, and when I’m not busy “vetting” products (pun intended), I run my own business consulting on dog behavior, bodywork, and rehabilitation to help your furry friends live their best lives.family’s needs, so together we can ensure your Healthy Hounds solution is just a click away.
